Each
year, the state of Wisconsin runs a hot competition for high
school art students called
the Visual Arts Classic... sort of a cross between The
Iron Chef and the Impressionists vs the Fauvists
in a WWF tag team cage match! For
the "Famous Artists Quiz Bowl" segment, a dozen artists
are chosen each year for the students to study, and this year,
Lou Brooks himself was picked along with Paul Klee,
Marisol Escobar, Claes Oldenburg, Honore Daumier, William Wegman,
Red Grooms, Al Hirschfeld, William Hogarth, Warington Colescott,
Robert Arneson, and Liza Lou. When Lou was asked
why he felt he was included with such an esteemed group, he
said, "it had to do with a Hypno-Coin, and the judges being
really drunk."
Meanwhile,
we've gotten tons of terrific e-mail from participating students,
telling us everything from how cold the weather is in Wisconsin,
to... well, how really cold the weather in Wisconsin
is, to... Kohler, Wisconsin being one of the world's
leading toilet manufacturing centers! Although Lou admits
he has been an American-Standard man most of his life,
he says he is willing to give Kohler a try!
